Notwithstanding the coffee mugs, the t-shirts and the sports tickets commonly given to express appreciation, 'lack of recognition' is often cited as the main reason for leaving the organization. But it needn't be that way.

In her recently published book "The Power of Acknowledgment" Judith Umlas provides a well-reasoned and heart-felt appeal for a culture where people acknowledge each other's humanity, accomplishments, talents and wisdom on a continuous basis. Her case is so compelling -- it might just catch on. And wouldn't that be something!
